Summer Camps
The Slam Dunk for Life Camp Program teaches life skills and the values of education. Students are nominated from middle schools across the city. The week-long camps are held during the summer and run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. Campers are selected during the school year by a committee of school personnel and are chosen because they meet the profile of a student in need of positive reinforcement and role modeling. Campers are provided with transportation, daily lunches, a t-shirt and shorts, and a Slam Dunk for Life basketball for attending camp

Fine Arts Camp Campers there were taught the same life skills curriculum as our basketball campers, but learned fine arts subjects including dance, orchestra, mariachi, and the visual arts. A special performance was held on the last day of camp where students performed dance routines, musical ensembles, and displayed their artwork for friends and family members. |
Counselers Teach Principles
During the camps, students are taught the importance of assuming responsibility for themselves, and that no one else can do that for them. Instructors teach students that there is no “free” in life. Campers learn the significance of each of these words daily, and guest speakers reinforce these concepts at the end of the week by explaining how each of the five concepts played a role in their success. Previous guest speakers include NBA Head Coach and former Spur, Avery Johnson, boxing legend Jesse James Leija, Bexar County District Attorney, Hon. Susan Reed, and Former Chief Operating Officer of the San Antonio Silver Stars, Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil. Each year, the number of students attending the Slam Dunk for Life camps has increased dramatically. We now serve over 1,500 students every summer!
