Field Trips
The SDFL Field Trip Program serves as a follow-up to the summer camps provided in Edgewood Independent School District. The program involves taking small groups of 8th grade students on field trips to local businesses in order to increase awareness of job opportunities and promote self-esteem through interaction with community business leaders. During each field trip, business leaders become mentors by leading students on a tour of the business, explaining what their organization does, and discussing various jobs and their corresponding educational requirements and salary ranges.
Our goal is for every student to obtain a higher level of education, thus increasing their overall lifetime earnings. Due to the generosity of more than 100 local businesses, 2,800 students have participated in the program since January of 2005.
